THU 2019 Golden Ticket Challenge / Second Place Winner Submission, Professional Category :D

Hi Everyone!
This is my final artwork and submission for the THU 2019 Golden Ticket Challenge.

Following the brief and looking for information about algae and bio-fuel to come up with some ideas for the challenge, I found an article about algae cultivation in South Africa and the production of a number of different energy sources, it triggered the idea for the concept of this illustration and a theory about the events that may happen in the next 40 years. Trying to connect with my inner child, I remember one of the things that left an imprint on me (a sad one) was seeing images of the children in Africa with there bellies swollen and find out it was the result of malnutrition. Then as one grows up you develop this shield to protect you from being overwhelmed by the inequities of the world and at the same time trying no to loose the empathy for all the human beings. (more)

Writing down some concepts and Scy-fy ideas for a possible future, 40 years from now.

This is a far away future and things change at an exponential rate, I'll try to make some speculations about the future based on actual facts and possibilities that can spice up the theme for this challenge.

As I have to work in some commissions right now, I'll be writing down this ideas until I can make some time to work on the concepts, props, iterations, thumbnails and of course the final artwork for the challenge.

Background and development - Year: 2060

In the year 2060, 20 years after the world plague that reduced population to nearly a half, caused by the melting icebergs that released ancient bacteria and viruses that had become inactive in cold conditions, humanity finally learned its lesson. Together with the release of absorbed harmful chemicals, banned pesticides that went airborne, this deceases spread specially throught the third world countries, specially in Africa and Asia, where vaccination was not affordable and/or logistically difficult.

After the disappearing of coast cities like Amsterdam, Venice, Alexandria and Tokyo due to the global warming that causes glaciers to melt rising the sea level, the UN voted for an intervention in a global scale, in government matters regarding pollution, CO2 emissions, use of natural resources and alternative sources of energy. This led to the banned of fossil energy sources, no more oil or natural gas were to be extracted and used.

Excessive consumerism was disappearing by government campaigns creating consciousness about the fact that our way of life in the late XX century and early XXI century was the primal cause of the 2040s world crisis. Big and monopolistic companies and governments make a pact and associated as a way to work together towards a more humanistic goal and to protect what was left of human kind, and in search for a better future. A big part of their profit was commit to recycle the agriculture zones, water purification and machinery that work on reusable sources of energy, like solar and wind energy, and bio-fuel by the algae farms.

In this regard, a motor company from German was the leader on researching on new technology to apply on vehicles at all levels. New algae systems were created outside the cities, and people needed to move resources and supplies to live in the new farm-based societies, because another thing that governments tried to boost was to dismantle of the mega-cities that were the main cause of pollution and waste generation.

Thumbnail layout and value composition
So, enough for the concept art, it's about time to start working on the actual picture, so here are some thumbnails in which I'm looking for the best point of view to tell a story, composition, value and grouping.
